Well I was accelerating off af off ramp onto the freeway and I couldnt get into the gates where reverse and 5th gear are. A few days prior it happeneded on the highway but after a little wiggling it went into gear. I pulled off my shifter today to see if anything broke and jammed it up but couldn't see anything. I was told there is some kind of lock out mechanism on 5th/reverse or both? is this true? I tried looking through the FSM but couldnt find it in the transmission section (i'm pretty blind?). I was wondering if anybody else had this problem or knows where I should start looking? Thanks!

 

i have a similar problem but mine i put it into reverse and if i dont hold it in it kicks out and grinds the crap out of the gear. im told it could be the bushings but i get all the other gears just fine maybe i need a new tranny?? ples tell me waht you know>the car is a 87 n/a with a 156,000 mile broked engine swapped to a 120,000 mile engine (it was 400bucks) brand new clutch.
