Transmission problems
Alright so my car has been in the tranny shop for FAR too long. Yesterday I talked to the guy and he said that he had the car appart 3 different times with 3 different trannys and that is what is taking so long.
Now my question is if he is trying to bolt up a TII tranny to my '86, wont it fit with some minor adjustments? From what I remember from a long time ago...don't you need a starter from a TII and a different driveshaft (I believe one from an auto vert)?
And what should I ask is not fitting so that I can get a better idea of what exactly is going wrong? I mean the guy has been doing this for longer than I've been alive...I know he knows his stuff...but I'm also almost positive that if he has has 3 trannys, there has to be a way to make one of them fit.
btw..he is waiting on the 4th one to come in today.

to put a Turbo (R type) tranny into a non turbo then you would need to also swap
The Flywheel,
The Starter,
The Clutch,
The clutch slave cylinder,
The tranny mount,
The drive shaft (it would require a custom drive shaft or you would also have to replace the:
Rear end diff assembly and half shafts- You could not use a auto tranny drive shaft as it is about an inch short and you would only have about half the flange into the tranny.
So yeah, unless you replaced all those, you could not bolt in a R Type tranny, where there was a M type.
then you would also have to extend the wires for the Neutral safety wire, the over the top switch (5th gear) and the reverse switch.
