Question Transmission help

How do you drop a transmission? Do you need a car lift and stuff like that or can you drop one out in your driveway? I need to know this because I need to replace a clutch fork (in a car I might buy- 2nd gen. n/a, '88)

You can do it in the driveway, you'll need 4 good quality jack stands, a jack, some penetrating oil (for the exhaust), basic hand tools, and a friend.

I'd budget most of the weekend for it if it's your first time tackling something major like this.

Don't forget to download the factory service manual section that will detail everything you need to do to drop it.

Man you can get it done in a day it takes like 2 hours to get your exhuast off for the first time and all the bolts off the tranny/starter then you drop it you will need a jack to hold the tranny when you drop it cause its sort of heavy but if you dont have another jack then you can hold it when you drop it its like 125 pounds i think. maybe more maybe less i have no problem holding them...when you get good (which is bad means youve taken to many out) it only takes 3 hours total from time you pull your car in garage to when it rolls out good luck
