transmission gasket
ok, so i was looking a long time ago, and found a place you could buy the gasket for the manual trans. pan. rare, i know, but mine has to be leaking, cause nothing else is, and the bolts are always damp and smell like 75w90. so, does anyone know where to find this gasket, and how hard it is to replace it (like, are metal bits going to fall out when i pull the pan off?)
My tranny mush be broken because my pan is missing...
Manuals don't have a "pan", only the auto's do. If you have a transmission with a pan then just use high temp RTV. Sometimes RTV can be better than a pre-made gasket.

honestly, a gasket kit cant be expensive i would go to a dealership.
if its only the bottom cover then im sure you can use some kind of high temp. RTV sealer.
I got my gaskets for not that much. Probably $20-40 tops. You have to take off the cover or "pan" behind the throwout bearing and release fork and replace the main gasket that looks like an "8" and the one that's rubber with a spring in it. If I recall there is another metal type gasket in there, but it should be ok. I'd mainly be concerned with the rubber gaskets. There is a second gasket at the end of the tranny where the driveshaft hooks up that you should replace while you have the tranny out. No reason to do all that work only to have it come out the back.
When I pulled my transmission to put my rebuild in I found it covered in black sludge which was tranny fluid leaking into the area and mixing with clutch dust.
Oh, the place I got them was blackdragonautomotive.com
They have an extensive and inexpensive parts supply catalog that you can order for free. I recommend it.

A good RTV will work for the turbo cover and the front cover on either tranny. The 'one with a spring in it' is called a seal, its around the input shaft, about $4 at the dealer. I use the grey RTV that is safe for sensors, only because its the color of the tranny.

no, go to the dealership. its 10 bucks, and makes a lot less work. its the gasket that literally looks like an oil pan gasket. its large and rectangular, and has the ~15-20 holes for bolts in it.
