Transmission fill amount

Ok, well, sig says what I have.

In case:
1988 GXL 5sp.

Will 3 quarts of Neo be enough? FSM says 2.1 qrts? 2.6 for turbo?

Thanks guys! Almost done with flywheel swap. Replacing almost everything.

New seals, bushings, rubber boots, whatever I can.... $1200 later....

Some people say you fill it from the transmission and from the shifter. Is this true?

I dont fill the FC tranny from the shifter, fill it from the fill hole under the car until the oil is at the level where it starts coming out of the hole. This would be considered the proper method of filling the tranny.

I'm going to try putting some in the shifter today. I recently changed the fluid in mine and i have a very small noise coming from the tranny now. So, I think I will give that a try.

For my S5 NA, it took about 2 1/3 - 2 1/2 quarts to fill the transmission.

Oh, and fill it through the fill hole as mentioned, not through the shifter area.
