Transmission in but no start?
1991 N/A 5 speed.
Transmission broke, took it out, bought a new one and put it in. Everything important is bolted back on. Car will crank but will not start. I can smell fuel but car will not start, fuel is not leaking to my knowledge but still smells strongly.
I dont know if it's my grounds that are all screwed up or what but when I turn on my lights, they're really dim and the housings go up really slow. I didnt touch the fuel system, the ignition system or any parts of the engine while doing this but there are a few wires hanging off of the tranny and i dont know where they go, what they are, or what they do.
Wire 1: Grounded to the bell housing and has a male end (black wire)
Wire 2 and 3: The two green wires coming off of the transmission somebody said they were the fifth switch and reverse lights but i dont know.
Wire 4: Also coming off of the transmission is a black wire with a white female end.
Help Please....thanks.

as long as it cranks...
all the other wires are sensors... (neutral safety, reverse, etc)...
to me it sounds like your injectors are not registering (assuming your engine and everything else is fine).
i've encountered this when 2nd gens sit for an extended period of time...
if you have an extra crank angle sensor, plug it in, turn the key to the on position, make sure you have juice to the battery, and spin the worm gear with your fingers until you hear the injectors click.
good luck.

thats a good idea, i'll have to try that out, assuming i can find another crank angle sensor, but i'm thinking, why would my lights and gauge cluster be really really dim. Could it be that since i'm pulling all my juice to start my engine its just lacking? I just got the battery replaced like 4 months ago so i dunno, but i'll let you know what i find out.

Ok so a new problem, car starts really really rough. When car is idling it idles really really low and gets a lot of popping, flames and smoke. If you play with the gas enough it will idle fine for like 30 seconds then it will go back to popping and smoke and eventually die. My pops says it might be a timing issue but the car has been off, we didnt touch the engine or the fuel system at all, just the trans, starter and exhaust.

It really does sound like a timing issue but i didnt mess around with the timing or play with anything, I mean, my friend was using a clutch alignment tool before we put the transmission in i guess to line it up but the motor is pretty much brand new, only about 3500 miles on it and yes i do mean just about brand spankin new.
I guess tomorrow i'm going to take it down to the mechanic and have him do a tune up and stuff, we'll see what happens but any other input would be nice.
