transmission

can you bolt a 91 trany into a 86 with out any complications?

The S5 auto tranny has a computer that operates and monitors some of the internal functions. Physically it will fit in the 86-88 cars, but how well it functions without the computer, I don't know.

Being that you didn't specify auto or manual, I will assume manual. The manual tranny in the 2gen N/A's were the same all the way across the board. 2gen TII's tranny's were also the same (I belive). At least the housing was the same, internals were slightly different.
