Transmision Question

I have an NA '86, and I was doing some donuts yesterday (gotta love the snow), but I noticed that I have some problems downshifting into 2nd at any speed. Upshifts are fine, and I always downshift from third, but the last few days, it has just become impossible. When I am stopped, it goes in, but hangs up a bit.

I replaced both of my shift lever bushings a couple of months ago, and I just rebuilt my clutch master cylinder.

Can this be a synchro problem? I am basically retarded when it comes to trannies.

Thanks for the help!

Yup. You'll notice worn syncros more on downshifts than when driving thru the gears.

Syncros...But the transmission will probably last another 10 years in this condition, so I wouldn't have it rebuilt just to solve this problem. Put some good synthetic lube in it, and learn to double-clutch if worse comes to worse.

run a search. there are plenty of posts explaining the technique. you are basically rev matching to get the input and output shafts at the same speed so the synchro doesn't really do anything.
