I have a 88 Vert and I'm not sure if the transmission is going out. I shift at high RPM in 3rd or 5th it at times grinds down shifting to 4th of in forth if I'm pulling at about 4500 it clunks. I was told the U- Joint my be going out but when I was under the car it seemed solid no play in it. I just replaced the shifter bushing and remover I guess all of the chunks from the old bushing but one of the bolts for the shifter broke inside the thing... Sorry Been drinking and sick of this haveing to push out of parking spots or ramming from 5th to Reverse with the clutch in before shutting off the car to see if I can use my reverse. I know my Diff mount is broken so I know about that clunk. The clunk I hear at 4500 is from like the shifter. I'll be turboing my 6 port engine so I will be getting a TII trans really soon and the drive shaft, from TII trans to N/A rear end. I need help with this cause it's pissing me of every time i look at her. And one more problem I keep blowing my cabin fuse for all my warning lights and instrument Cluster when I shift to 5th any help would be great thanks!!!

 

Sounds like a bad trans. Na trans are cheap to replace. If you do a tii trans you will need to run a tii flywheel, clutch, and clutch slave cylinder.

 

Ok just noticed earlier this week and today more so, on accel and mainly on deccel that the shifter bangs really hard and clunks loud and the whole car shake when it does it in mainly 2nd gear. It does it in the other gears as well but mainly in 2nd last time I checked my trans mounts was good. It sounds like my gear box is loose on the inside cause it rattles kind of crazy and a metal on metal sound is noticeable. It's strange cause it doesnt affect the way the car runs or performs it's just unpleasing so in the morning I'll check my gear oil levels even though I made sure it was good last month, when I did a Touge run. All and any input and help will be great. Thanks

 

Ok well I replace the Transmission due to it was being my Drive shaft front yoke blew and caused mayhem. I did a TII Trans swap it works great but still no reverse lights can it be in the harness I fabbed up some wires to connect the the plugs being to short can I have some help!!! I tired of police flashing me due to inop reverse lights in shoppin centers!!!
