Is this trans S4 or S5?? Pics Inside

So I bought this a few years ago and no can't remember if it's S4 or S5, it's supposed to be J-Spec if that makes a difference.

I am trying to buy a clutch kit and new shifter kit so I could use the help in deciding which series I need to buy for.

Can you tell me if it's series 4 or 5? Here are some pictures of the transmission in question:

Hmm.. The clutch kit I think needs to match your flywheel's generation.

As for the trans.. I can't tell - the only easy way to distinguish that I know of is to look at how the Y-bracket attaches: diagonally=S5, vertically=S4
The Y-Bracket is the piece that the transmission mounts bolt to that attaches directly the the trans.

Okay I think I figured the clutches are the same for S4 or S5 so that's okay.

For the series, I am more concerned with the shifter assembly. In the one pic with the two transmissions, the one on the right is an S4 Turbo II trans, the wiring is different between the two, the new one has bullet type connectors rather than those plastic connectors.

I'm a bit confused because it's also Jspec which i'm told only has those two connectors. So I don't think those help to differentiate between S4 and S5. I need a way to figure out the difference between the shifter parts so I can rebuild mine with the correct parts.

Okay, I totally see what you are saying there, that's exactly what I needed to know. I have been having problems with the shifter and now I can buy the proper parts.

Thank you very much for that confirmation!!

s5 has no advantage that I know of, short shifters are universal

just if you have enough parts missing and you come across a entire s5 assembly you can use it

Okay, see I was wondering about series specific short shifters but I think you just cleared that up.

I know the regular shifters are different between S4 and S5, with the S4 having no bottom cup bushing or groove bushing. The one short sift kit I have does have a groove bushing but I think the included metal sleeves adapt to fit?

I'm going to go take a look at my shifter and see what I can find out here.

Thanks for your help Rob, your cars looking great as always man.

Just went out and checked out the shifter situation, looks like we had a bushing or two installed improperly. I removed the bottom cup remains, moved the ring bushing to the top and I also removed the groove bushing, now it's nice and tight but goes into the gears much better.

Thanks for all the help with the transmission and shifter!
