Question Tranny whining??

Hi. Just wondering if anyones come across a problem im having. After the 2nd week of driving my new ride, it started to make a whining noise when in idle or driving. As soon as i push the clucth in the noise goes away. is it because the throw out bearing might be stuck or somthing?? Or grinding on somthing? Anyone have this problem before

Thanx Sandor

yup. my friend has this problem on his civic. i dunno if the clutch setup is the same or similar on a rwd, but on his transaxle there is a bearing that sits between the clutch and the lever that disengages the clutch(throw out bearing?). this bearing is worn or missing some lube. either way it is no big deal except for the noise it makes

no big deal? lol ok, keep on driving. just start your car IN gear so you don't need to shift, because you won't be able to

It depends on how loud the whining is. There is a very faint whining/whirring that is normal for an aged FC tranny, and then there is a louder whirring that spells certain doom for your pilot/throwout bearing.

No, I'm saying that the little whirring noise is normal for an old tranny. Hell, mine's only 50k miles old, and it whirrs slightly. However, if it's more noisy than just a subtle whirr, you probably have a bad bearing and should replace it. It doesn't matter which bearing it is, because you should replace both while you're under there.

yeah mine does the same, it whirred and then when I had the clutch replaced I also did the piolet and throw-out bearings and it still whirres. As long as it isn't too loud it's fine. Not to hi-jack this thread but...what about the louder, lower toned grrrrrrrrr like whirring I hear when coasting in second gear? It goes away if I put the clutch in or if I give it gas. Basicly engine breaking in 2nd makes a growling sound. Any ideas?

I have had 2 different trannies in my FC, all with new components, and they all whirred. I think it is just an RX7 thing........yet another RX7 thing.

ya mine whines as well, pretty loud but I can't see it being the clutch because it was replaced 14000kms ago, I've read that its the tranny bearings ? Either way I'll know when I swap trannies

Mine has whinned for over 30K miles.... supposedly throwout bearing or internal transmission bearings.... I'll wait until it stop shifting and then fix it. Works fine now aside from the "gear drive" noise.

Hmmm I do not think you guys are talking about the same thing...

T210thAnniv, are you talking about a sound/whin, that is similar to a starter motor running? Is it louder from inside or outside the car? Mine is louder from inside, i think because so do not hear the engine as much.. Anyways, That is the problem I have, I still need to install my new engine and clutch kit and I will see if that noise is still that...

most likely the tranny bearings. Mine started doing that and it was worse when the trans was cold. Better when hot. Kept getting louder of the years until I rebuilt the thing.

Well my tranny is pretty new, clutch, and flywheel and throw out bearing new as well. Brian said it himself. But the whinning has gotten louder, sounds kinds like the cars supercharged. Im going to take out the tranny because i am nto sure wtf it is and i am not going to just keep driving it to find out

Mine whines.. BUT only when I push the clutch IN. If its in N or in any gear... it still does it. Its not loud at all, If my radio is barely on, I cant hear it. but I can hear it over my 2K idle...
