tranny transplant guys
this is a question for all the guys who have transplanted an auto tranny to a manual tranny.
first off i know there are alot of searches that can be done on this topic. until tonight i thoght i was up to date on all info regarding switching an auto to manual. i mentioned to my boss (who owns the same car as me, an 89 vert with auto tranny) i told him im getting pumped up about maybe doin the swap. he immediately crashed my (what i thought was superior) knowledge, from all the write ups ive read.
he goes to me "hey the harness is 600 bucks alone" i say "harness? no need to switch any harness!"
he has heard that if you dont switch some harness that the engine wont know when to run correctly. i refer to the write ups ive read which state to simply unplug the EAT comp in the passenger side deal, and wire the other simple connections.
i know rx-7s have many vacuum and blah blah things going on that affect the way it runs including computer info. but the writeups ive read mention nothing about switching any complete harness over!! anyone have opposing data against the writeups, that suggest replacing a complete wiring harness?
my understanding is....if you dont disconnect the auto tranny ecu in the passenger side door well deal. that it will run like crap. but if you simply disconnect this ecu, then the engine runs correctly!!??
this guy does have a good rotory mech he beleives in and refers his mechs knowledge against what i read...and usually it stacks up but this time i need a second opinion. cuz hes second guessing what i have read other people have already successfully completed.
please....anyone who has made this switchover...give me input?thx

engine needs 2 things to run: Fuel and spark. Doesn't need a tranny.
The EAT can be disconnected. Its for the slugomatic tranny. Since you won't have one, you don't need its computer. You will have to Mod the wiring for your reverse lights, and for your starter. Check this link out if you haven't already.
