Tranny swaps?

hey you all no what i got...my 89 gtu and i was wonder what other transmitions i could put into it....because i can get a 1st gen tranny free....and i can get others too...is there any other tranny that will fit in my car besides a 89?????

The series 4 transmission will bolt right up if you use the S4 crossmember. I am not sure on the 1st generation transmissions though.

what is the crossmember that you are talking about?...does it have the same drive shaft and everything?

No, no... the crossmember is a plate that the rear of the transmission bolts to and then that bolts to the car frame. It supports the rear of the transmission. The S4 and S5 transmission crossmembers are different so if you are swapping transmissions, you have to use the right crossmember with the right transmission.
