Tranny swap-- its finished!!!! (and i need a switched wire, any ideas?)
The "5 hour project" lasted 3 weeks. Its finaly complete though. I'm just now working on the exhaust (which I broke to hell upon removal.) I also just replaced the starter (which I had to special order.) Everything seems ok, but I started the car with the cat on the exhaust (no precat, rest of exhuast is on the car but hanging...) and I shoot tons of white smoke. I figure its probably just grease or something burning off the exhuast? Hopefuly anyway, I look down and all i see is bunches of whie smoke. Maybe the cat used to elimate this (before I gutted it when we've been working on this project.)? In any case, it died once when I was testing the gears out. She seems ok on jackstands, a bit of a wobble around 30mph, but i figure its just the jeckstands giving a bit (that and the fact the third jackstand isn't really holding anything b/c the car is sitting about 1/5 inch above it, where it won't click to hold.-- guess the driveway isn't level.
Also, I removed the clutch fan and am installing an efan. Summer is almost here so I'm going to relay wire it to the ignition switched power. So my questio is: where is the closest ignition switched wire *in* the engine bay. I've got enough loose wires running through the firewall as it is.
Also I replaced the gas filter, oil, tranny fluid, will be replacing the rear dif oil.
One thing I love about rotaries-- no matter how clean burning the engine, you will still become intoxicated by the exhast 5 times faster than a 4 banger. not that I like to become intoxicated by it, but the smell of that exhaust in moderation is kinda nice. Its like the exhast of a big dodge truck, ever notice how it doesn't stink like hell? Might hurt the eyes a bit though...
