tranny rebuild?

Hey guys, so this spring I want to do quite a bit to my 7, I'm finishing paint, wheels tires, gt35r and I want to rebuild the tranny, so my question is who makes a good rebuild kit for our fc?

I'm assuming it to be a manual, so better to pull it apart, examine the contents and order what is needed.

be aware, you're gonna need a very long jawed puller to remove the mainshaft bearing. about 16". might be able to get a bearing splitter in there and use the press if you remove the countershaft bearing first. maybe. i've seen kits on ebay for around 2-300$. which includes blocking rings, bearings and seals. that's pretty much everything you'd want to change. if you aren't experiencing any issues with the transmission, i'd leave it be. if it aint broke, don't fix it

I agree with not messing with it unless something is wrong. The transmission requires a lot of careful attention to the tolerances, and the special tools required are either very expensive or difficult to obtain. I ended up making my own long bearing puller when I rebuilt my NA transmission, but I had a lot of previous experience working on transmissions and knew exactly what I needed.
If you're still pretty intent on rebuilding it (or doing so to handle more power) then order the seals, bearings, and blocking rings from mazda. You'll have a longer life out of the transmission using Mazda parts. You could also look into getting the gears and shafts treated to handle more torque if you are planning on putting a lot of torque through it, but the T2 trans is quite beefy and can handle a lot.

Awesome i love all the input guys! Well my 5th gear syncro is going out, as well as when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd it does do a slight grind, so i think that syncro is going too, It is the s5 t2 trans, but my buddy who works on a lot of transmissions would be the one doing the work not me. I have no experience myself with transmission. So AGreen you think i should just go mazda parts only? It would probably run me more money to build it that way but it would probably be more worth it.

Unless you find removing/cracking open transmissions fun, I'd spend whatever it took to minimize the possibility of doing it again.

Who knows?
That's between your transmission and the guy working on it.

All I will say after rebuilding the transmission once and now needing to rebuild it again, years after the first time, rebuilding is not worth it at the current price of used ones. just try to find a good use one, I am going to swap mine out with a t2 drivetrain, because the n/a trans just wont hold up to what I need it to.

Well george are you rebuilding the na trans then? i have heard the T2 trans is really durable, if I can just rebuild it for pretty much the cost of parts and a 12 pack of beer then why not haah

All I was saying, its a pain in the *** to rebuild these transmissions. I got my rebuild kit from somewhere out in Arizona, they had to send me two kits and I still think i had to reuse two of my old synchronizers. And I had to use a hotplate to get parts to slide down the shafts. If u have not done a transmission rebuild before this kind is not a good one to learn on. Are u even having any problems with your transmission?

ya i have a few syncro issues, like when shifting into 5th at any speed above 60mph it grinds, and when shifting from 3rd to 2nd like at road course tracks it grinds as well.
