Tranny problem, need help

Well my car acts as if the car is stuck in gear, even with the shifter in nuetral and clutch to the floor( yes clutch hydralics work as they should) the engine cranks over when i move the car... So i figured either the tranny is shot or the clutch is stuck to the flywheel. So i just dropped the tranny this afternoon and the input shaft spins when I spin the driveshaft with the tranny shifter in nuetral, should that happen? If it needs a rebuild can i have it beefed up?

I've heard that RX7 manual transmissions are pretty solid. It sounds like you have multiple problems. If the clutch is working even if the transmission is shot, you should still be able to start it with the clutch in. The only way that could happen is if the throw-out bearing has fused the transmission to the engine. Maybe your clutch is shreaded and parts of it are keeping flywheel and clutch disks stuck together. Have you looked in the transmission bell housing?

Good luck,
Matt

I had the exact same problem after I put my motor in..the car wouldnt go in 1st, 2nd, 3rd...and when I cranked the car with the clutch in, in 1st gear the car would jump. The reason for this, was b/c I didnt put anti-sieze on the splines of the input shaft, so it was catching and getting stuck. My shop teacher told me to put it in 4th gear (it would go in 4th) and crank the car, it jumped forward but you heard a clunk and it would free up and work fine. I had to do the 4th gear thing about 5 times total, and finally now it doesnt do it at all. I think the splines just need to seat...I didnt pull the trans back out at all either and now I have no problems.

Two years ago my 91NA locked in 5th. I pulled the tranny in the driveway, took it apart, and found the lock nut on the main shaft had come loose, backed up & jammed 5th so tight I had to chisel the thrust collar off. It cost me $60 for the parts (2 lock nuts, thrust collar & retaining rings). I took a chance the bearings were OK. Then comes the magic – synthetic gear oil. It’s been together almost 2 years, and I nail 2nd at 6k and chirp the oversize rear tires almost daily.

Used NA trannys are often cheaper the having a shop rebuild. Check out your local parts monger.

Thxs for the help, but its a T2. Its hard enough in MN to find an Rx7, let alone a t2 parts car at the junkyard.

Hmm - I see - A GTU with a TII.

What gear is it stuck in?

Maybe browse through the FSM tranny section.
