Experiencing slipping? Might have to check on the torque converter...

If you're stalling at idle it sounds like you've got more problems than just the tranny (from your wording at least)

I have an '89 vert with an auto that is slipping....(reason I just picked up a '91 vert manual). Question: does first gear seem to go from a stand still to like 40 mph? Or should I say, does it hesitate to shift into second until 40 or 45? No, I'm not talking about you putting your foot in it, just normal driving. Reason I ask is that it is possible that the car is not down-shifting through all the gears when you come to a stop. I know that sounds impossible, but it can happen if first gear is not catching.

Honestly, auto trannies are a bitch and that's the reason no rotorhead wants one, me included. Autozone will get you a rebuilt unit for like 1400...without a new converter...and you can well bet that's fubar too.

Sell it and get a stick.

It may be a stuck torque convertor solinoid or a problem with the electronic shift mechanisms.

Good Luck
