Does the tranny have to be taken out from under the car in order to change the clutch?! Or can you somehow push it back?

Once you unbolt it enough to do everything you need to do, it'd fall on you anyways.

So yes, the tranny needs to be removed...unless the engine is out of the car and the tranny is in the chassis.

yea, and make sure that you tighten the bolts you remove to unbolt the wire brackets off the tranny, or you'll have a leak. i learned the hard way.

You remove all the bolts retaining it in place and what does it rest on? Once you begin to move it, where does it go?

there are pegs, at least on my jimmy, That hold the tranny in place so its easy to remove/ replace bolts. if there wernt pegs it would be hard to take the last bolt out and yud have to watch it when you got it off so it doesnt crush your head.

Thanks everyone!

Another question: When I replace the clutch, do I put all the stuff (pressure plate, clutch cover) on the engine side? Or do I put them on the tranny side?

Engine side.

The pressure pate is bolted on the flywheel.

and the new clutch disk goes between the pressure plate and the Flywheel.

Don't forget to get a Clutch disk alignment tool.

I always use new bolts when doing a job I havent done yet. Get rid of the old rusted/corroded ones so they dont snap on you next time you take them off..

One other suggestion: pick up a Haynes manual. It has all the torque specs, as well as the step-by-step for what you are about to do.
