The synchros may be on their way out.

First step is to drain and refill your tranny with a good trnny fluid.

The members of this board highly recoment Redline MT-90 or Royal Purple.
You will need 2 quarts. You can find the Redline at a local speed shop, or on-line at Summit or Jegs.

Also make sure you clutch hydraulics are in good shape and you don't have any play between the pedal and the clutch master cylinder.

A SS braided clutch line is a great upgrade for under 30 bucks.

EDIT - I just looked up the FSM, and it lists 2.6 qt for both an N/A and a TII tranny. Wierd. Okay, my memory is slipping, must be getting old.

You have a TII, and he has an N/A.

I'm also going on memory here. Check your friendly FSM for exact specs.

My mechanic says the only SS braided lines you would ever need would be on the brakes due to the high psi, the stock clutch line does not get enough psi to expand.

this seems like basic know-how for all of you guys.. how does one go about adjusting the master/slave cylinders? And what do they do? i know what a clutch does and i understand the role a hydraulic cylinder would play in the system.. but two? man im jacking this thread. sorry.

I have the same problem with High RPM shifting. After changing to redline fluid I can only conlcude that my synchros are garbage.

My solution involves not taking the car that high in the RRRs....

Look under your dash at the pedal assembly, there is a rod that connects to the pedal and pushes on the master cylinder piston. On that rod there is a nut you can loosen to extend the rod out to take all the slack out of the pedal.

my tranny is the same way, only grinds at high RPM's, but even if i double clutch it will grind, does this mean it might be something other than synchros? and how much does it cost to replace synchros?...

only place i have found that sells synchros is about $250 for the set, probably about $700-1k depending on if there is any hard parts damaged in the trans then it could be even higher. at a tranny shop would be $1300+ likely, there's still a few decent trannies floating around the wreckers and on ebay but there is always a gamble with used parts..
