Tranny feels hot on shift boot is that normal?

hey i dont want to be annoying but when i was driving my new car home (40 mile drive with a kinda steep hill for 3 miles) i was shifting and let my hand down and felt the shift boot and there was alot of heat comming up no really hot just like i put my hand infront of an oven haha. let me know

Yeah, they do get pretty warm. If u wanna be on the safe side, check your trans. fluid levels to make sure everything is where it should be.

yep, i can feel the heat comming off my tranny through the shift boot....

spooks you at first, but in winter keeps your hand nice and toasty....

Umm it's not heat comming off your transmission boys... Yes your transmission may get "warm" but never "hot"... It's heat comming off of your exhaust/cat.

oh really, that was a guess of mine too, so thats not the trans? cuz i only noticed it after i went up a hill...

The tranny will get hot, but if it's hot air you're feeling it's most likely air that's gone through the radiator and then there is radiant heat from the exhaust, etc. Chances are everything is just fine.

Take the shift **** off and lift off the shift boot/trim and make sure you still have the rubber dougnuts (theres 3, but if you see one you can assume they are all there). Sorry mazda dealer didnt put mine back in when I had the trans rebuilt a few years ago.

yep. and mine does the same thing.

hmmm well the rubber in there was brittle and the inner part wes detached fromt he rest. it was flacking into differnt layers
