Open the drain, and drain the old oil.

Remove the filler plug, then stick a hose of some kind (heater hose works well) in the hole. Stick a funnel in the end of the hose and pour the oil down into the transmission or diff. The trick is to have the funnel somewhere higher than wherever you're pouring into.

All your maintenance needs and such are in the following link. Read it, learn it, live it.

http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...ual/1989_1991/

edit: the fsm will tell you to remove a drain plug on the engine to remove or drain the oil while there is also a drain plug on your oil pan. The one on the pan is easier to access plus it will allow you to remove all the oil in the pan which the drain on the side of the engine will not. Also punch a hole in top of the oil filter to change the pressure within the filter which enables for the oil in the filter to drain downward into the engine and then out of the oil pan. If you do not do this chances are when you remove the filter you will have oil pour out of the filter onto your engine and make a mess. Lastly, many of these answers can be found by using the search function. It is best to use the advanced search which is found on the bottom of the regular search command. Enter in the keywords at the top left of the advanced search page and then narrow down where to search by choosing from a list located at the bottom of the advanced search page. You can specify the search by looking just in the 2nd gen section or audio interior section or suspension brake section and so on.

Just remember this

ALWAYS remove the fill hole first before removing the drain hole.

on the Transmission, there is a Fill hole and a Drain Hole.

Fill hole is for adding Tranny/Diff Fluid to the right level. Drain hole, well, for draining.

If you opened the Drain hole but then you found your Fill hole bolt is stuck/seized. You have no choice but to tow it. Cuz you will not be able to drive your car without ******* up the Transmission/Rear Diff.

No, there is a fill port for the transmission on the side...separate from the chamber where the stick shift is (which also gets oil, BTW).

Whether or not you use the same oil for the tranny and diff depends on if you have a LSD or not.
They are two different units but the fill procedure is essentially the same.

A hammer?

The yoot of Merka have turned into pussies.
Why, in my day we'd have just stuck our finger into the filter.
That's right! Just a bare finger...and we'd have enjoyed it!

Now you need a hammer.
Unless you have a Fram filter...then you just turn on the car and wait for the filter to spring a leak and drain itself.

You cannot fill S5 (dunno about S4) tranny from the stick shift is at. you can pour a little bit in there to lube some parts.

but to fill, you need to fill it up to the fill hole on the side of the transmission

Tranny Fluid try to stick with GL4

for the rear, anything GL5 is good.

Try to get Synthetic ones btw.

^^ I agree get the pump it is a must have for these projects, it costs 4 dollars at the parts store.

Punching holes in oil filters? Wow.
Just take the filter off.

And make a huge mess...which I guess you find hilarious.

@illustrated_fc: Go ahead, punch the hole- you'll save the cleanup and amuse funkjaw at the same time.
A win-win scenario.

I suggest Redline MT90 for the tranny - I had generic synthetic (whatever the lube joint used) in mine, then switched the Redline, and have found shifting noticeably smoother and easier.

did you use the same method for the diff ? and where is the drain plug for the diff ?

diff does it have a fill plug too ?

nycgps : mine is a '89 non turbo fc. can i pour some fluid on the stick shift and do you know how much do i pour on the stick shift ? im guessing a little.

as anyone pour tranny fluid directly on the stick shift before? is it that necessary, doesn't the car inject some fluid to the stick shift ?

and def going to get the air pump and do that method also read about it some on other rx7 link sounds like the easiest wat to do it.

What are the recommended transmission fluid you guys recommend for high mile tranny...i already got a couple of your options GL4 and redline. any comments

thanks

I have never had a problem with making a mess..... I have had 4 FCs and have done dozens of oil changes on and off my lift at my shop. 3 of those FCs I still own and still change the oil on a regular basis.

Thats just my experience anyways, poking holes may work for you.

I love to poke holes now that I think about it.

instead of getting a pump, for the tranny, you can just get a 4ft hose, shimmy it down from the engine bay to the fill hole and stick it in the hole. Pour the oil from the engine bay and let gravity do its job.

For the Diff...you might need a pump for that or find someway to gravity feed it.

Smart idea. think ima stay that money on the pump and try that.

Question when will you that you can fill no more will it over fill or 2.5 litters is just enough to do the job.
