tranny blew.....

i have no clue what the hell happened, i was cruisin on the freeway in 5th, then plink, 5th went out, went into 4th and i pulled off, looked around a bit, put it in first, let off the clutch, went no where, same thing with second, third, and fifth, i only have 4th gear...and the worst part is, my friend has a spare tranny, with the same problem...d'oh. Anyone know what this might be so i can promptly fix it so i can get back to work?

Try a fucked up transmission. Most of em seem to go this way, if you drive em long enough. I have had many this way. Just get another one guaranteed to have all the gears in it, and throw it in. Less than an hour to fix.

I should have several decent (read: not perfect, but all gears) ones you can have for about $100 each if you need.

update

i pulled half the tranny apart, found what seems to be the major problem, most likely not worth the trouble of a rebuild.

It seems the "sealing" bearing that is the first bearing on the input shaft, well, its destroyed, seems the people that changed my clutch, throwout bearing, and some other stuff "forgot" to fill it up with fluid...so it overheated and went pop...not worth a rebuild, so whats the deal with the FB trannies in an FC...how good will that work out, and what would i need to do?

The same thing happened to my 7 (but i sold it before i could figure it out) i think it was the little mettle part in the bushing kit..... or part of the bushing itself, i think it just fell into the little shift linkage resivar......sorry about gramer...

i8acobra mine did the same thing and took it a part and the top and bottom shaft teeth were all mess up and messed up that bearing you are talking about.if it was just the bearing the car should still drive the only way to fix is to get a rebuild or used one

Well guys, update time:

swapped the tailhousing, contrl rod, and control rod forks, bolted up just fine, was able to drive it home without a hitch, only problem is its slightly leaking, which i attribute to the fact we filled it up way to much...not my fault, i swear, lol...reason is because it was at an angle when we filled it, so we arent that bright, no big ****, haha...anyway, it feels REALLY nice, accelerates quicker more, and i can use 5th gear on the street now instead of the highway, and it will accelerate in 5th, lol...

WHOOOIE!
They all go out that way, Happened to me too, Mine was too fucked up to rebuild. I had to get a used tranny, then new gears for the used tranny, then I got it rebuilt.

Just get a used one and change the fluid and put good stuff in.

HAH, my first tranny in my 90 vert went out in a race against another RX-7. When i shifted from first to second it kinda didnt go in so easily, then second to third took a lil bit to long to change. Back at the light, and it had to be pushed into first, then it didnt go into second at all. Then when i tried first, no luck. I drove to work like that for a week!!! No 1st or 2nd. The culprit-lack of tranny fluid. Now with a "rebuilt" engine from "some guy". It worked great WITH RED LINE FLUID. Yesterday, no third gear. sometimes no third or fourth. A couple days before that, going from 5th to 4th grinded. As of tonight, no third. AGHHHHHHHHH I STILL LOVE MY ROTORY!!! She cant be as bad as a potential <looks both ways and whispers> wife.
