Question tranmission swap

Will an 89 gtu tranmission fit in my 86 gxl?

Yes it should, I think the only difference is that the S5 tranny's have a little higher gear ratio.

make sure you get a S5 shifter...as the ball at the bottom is a little larger than the S4...the S4 one will work but there will be some play in the shifter and make it feel sloppy...I found this out the hard way!!!

yo guys on a somewhat similar note...i was wondering if you would be able to swap in a fd tranny cause they already make a 4.8 final drive for the fd and there really isnt much out there for the fc tranny. could i be able to use a fd driveshaft?

By higher do you mean taller or narrower?

I believe the 5th gear on the S5 tranny went from 0.697 to 0.756, and unless I have it backwards that means that 5th gear got narrower.

Not if you use the lower bushing (not to be confused with the middle bushings that everyone breaks or wear out.
