TPS screw not changing reading

'86 SE

I checked my TPS with an analog tester today because I'm trying to fix my idle problems. I warmed up the engine and then shut it off and put the key to on. Anyways, I tested it like the FSM and writeups have said to and I was reading 300-400 ohms no matter where the screw was adjusted to. I tightened it all the way (although I knew this would be too much) and it barely changed the resistance reading I was getting.

I'm guessing I did something wrong in my test ( http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...howtopic=45745 ) . Or is this a sign that the TPS is shot? Other tests to do (ECU perhaps)?

Why are you checking for resistance with the power ON???

If you want to check it with the resistance, all power must be off, and the TPS plug should be disconnected to prevent the meter from reading back through the circuit...

If you want to check it by using voltage (MY prefered way), keep everything hooked up, turn the key on, and read the green wire to ground (at the plug is a good spot). Should be about 1 volt at idle, HOT engine...

Ok, I see where I misread or was mislead (rather think it was this one ). I was testing ohms with the voltage check, not voltage. Aha, I'll do both soon and hopefully get my baby idling for the first time in 2 months.

Btw, due to me being a car noob, I finally found out that there should be a gasket between the UIM and LIM. Ordered a new one from Mazdatrix, installed, got it to roughly "idle" at 1500 after warming it up. Although hunting, dropping to 350, 2000, etc. I'll replace the LIM gasket when I have the time (moving into my college). Then I'm going to replace all my vac lines with silicone hoses. Hopefully this will all fix my problem. By that time I should have my transmission.

Sound like a plan?

Also, thanks for the help ONCE AGAIN Wayne .
