Tps Calibrate

I have had an idle problem forever on my 87 TII and I dodged the thought of calibrating or resetting my TPS. I said to myself, this cannot be causing my idle problem. So I went to FC3Spro for instruction. I found my instruction to be a bit more defined. If the throttle body mod has not been done, you must first warm the car up to operating temp. Shut the engine off and pull the intercooler. YOU MUST UNPLUG THE TPS. You cannot get an acurate reading with it plugged in. The wires on the tps side of the plug are not always the same color no matter what year or model you have. Using a multimeter,(fluke $400), (walmart special $15), the end results, priceless. I tried both only to get the same reading. I dont trust the light bulb method. For the correct setting, you need to be able to read the meter. You have three prongs on the plug, two are parallel to each other with one on the bottom. The bottom wire or the green wire will be the wire you connect the first probe to. Test the two parallel prongs with the next probe until you find the one that reads somewhere around 1k. Mine read 1.75k at closed throttle. With the probes attached, turn the throttle to WOT slowly and watch it rise to 4k to 6k. Release the throttle slowly and watch it fall back to around 1k. After this is complete, with the probes attached, turn the adjustment screw counter clockwise while watching the meter, the meter should drop but it took me approximately 8 turns to get the meter to read exactly 1k. I put everything back together, started her up and she idles at 749-751 on the SAFC. The crappy idle is completely gone along with the exhaust sputter. I'm so glad I finally did this. If you havent yet and you have this problem, do this simple procedure before you go digging for anything else.

It's always good to hear when something works out well and a problem is solved. Sure feels good to solve a long-time problem, huh? Makes it feel like a new car. Nice work.
