Exclamation Topic: S4 AFM Adapter. yes it's been discussed 1000x over. a different kinda thread!

I decided to do some research tonight:

I found (by searching) the really cheap ways of doing a s4 afm adapter, and some costly ones.
kinda looking for a thread archive here!!!

for example

cheap:

a) Ebay: prices may vary

b) Autozone/random parts stores: $15-25 (apparently adapter for mazda mx-6 works) Called the Spectre 8141 Air Flow Adapter

c) Junkyard: $3-5 tops (euro bosch style adapter) just gotta use a dremel to fit the screws.
As seen here

Still haven't found exactly which cars these come off of.
I read a post from Aaron Cake saying older BMW's but I can't guarantee anything.

and then the more costly ones:

a) HKS- $35-50

b) HiggiTrix/FC3S Pro- $30

i hope this will help reduce the number of
"where do i get a air filter adapter" n00b threads.

By the way, might I add since I have to go to the junkyard tomorrow... I am gonna try to hunt down the elusive Euro Bosch style AFM, which supposedly is an almost direct fit for the S4 AFM. (minus the four screws which the holes have to be elongated slightly to fit)

I will let you all know what happens and my findings!!!

Thanks to drago86 for the initial junkyard find and original post!

Thumbs up

OKAY, so the latest is.

I found which car the infamous Euro Bosch AFM adapter comes off of.
(as in drago86's original post)

A 70's BMW 5 Series (I believe)... You can correct me if I'm wrong.

the car looks like this (here's my exact donor car):

and one more:

so what are we supposed to be looking for, you ask?
this is the BMW AFM after I took off the adapter... so obviously be looking for one with the adapter attached

here's another look at the adapter by itself:

and our 87 Rx-7 donor car: Auto trans with sport suspension.

I couldn't find the AFM anywhere in the engine compartment. I was sure someone had taken it. and alas, I look in the hatch and there's the whole air box assembly!!
score!! (since it was the only FC there I was kind of worries I wouldn't find one)

so then what else was there to do, but check to see if the BMW AFM adapter truly did match up
(besides the fact that you have to drill out the holes to fit the Rx-7 AFM)

So, $2.00 later and some Dremel work and I have an AFM that works just as good as a $30 one!

I hope this also benefits others. I'm not trying to give less business to HiGGi or FC3SPro by doing this. And certainly not downgrading their work, because it looks awesome. Just giving a cheaper alternative.

PS Sorry they're all cell phone pics. It's all I had at the time.

Once I do some Dremel work, I'll try to take better pics!!

Well, updates but no pics. YET

Sad how I've gotten NO feedback thus far.

ANYWAY!!
Installed the modified junkyard AFM on my car today. Works perfectly.

The hole locations are slightly off. so Dremel tool IS needed.

and then there's 2 pins on the back of the junkyard AFM that need to be shaven off.

Other than that, make sure your new extended Dremel holes fit the stock Rx-7 AFM holes and use the hardware that you got from the junkyard one.

The 10mm bolts from the Rx-7s will do you no good!!!

ANY COMMENTS, QUESTIONS...? I'd never seen a write up that pertains to this topic, with this much info so I figured I'd help the FC community out!
