For my TII, with the full exhaust removed, the upper passenger side could be reached with a ratchet. The top on however I used a hand wrench (little tough, so I threw a 1 3/4" wrench over the other wrench to get more torque on it).

Even if you have a full set of air tools, there is still a need for for the (old school) box end wrench.

Same thing with the lower AC compressor bolts & the turbo's TB support nut.

You can reach both from the bottom, even if you have pretty big hnads, just not fat fingers. I got mine out with no problem, Just get two people, and have one help from the top with a light etc.

Good Luck!

ever try getting them through the engine bay? Just pull the upper intake manifold, takes like 2 minutes.

The easiest way is to remove the upper intake and use a ratcheting box wrench. Those are the **** btw. I almost never use regular ones. I remember how much of a pain the drivers side one was from below but from above its cake.

I got to both with a ratchet from underneath the car, while it was on ramps. That nut on top of the transmission was the real bitch for me. I used a big *** ratchet, a universal, and ~2 ft. worth of extensions

Take the hood off and use a racheting box end wrench. There is no need to remove the intake. It is a tight fit but the wrench will fit onto both bolts.

piece of cake - drop the tranny bracket in the back. get a 36" extension, ratchet and swivel socket. You can put a bit of pressure on the trans to gains a few more inches and then its a clear shot.

If your pulling the engine, just leave the trans connected and pull as a unit - far easier IMHO.

From below, using one of those pivoting socket-thingies, with an extension or two. Real easy. No need to remove anything else this way - no tb, no mani.

This was the way I did it too. No fancy work required when you have the right tools
