I have a problem with my rx7 wandering really bad at high speeds. I took it to get an alignment and they said whatever they use to adjust the rear toe, is frozen solid with rust. This car is not that clean but its not a rust box. Its believable but I am just wondering if someone could help me identify the component he meant, so I can replace it. I would appreciate it, thanks
They are talking about the cam bolt that adjusts the rear arm that sets the toe. The bolt, nut, and washer will likely need replaced. They commonly freeze up in the metal sleeve in the arm. Sometimes you can work them free by vibrating the ends with an air hammer while the nut is loosened a little. Typically the arm will need replaced if you are unable to remove the cam bolt from it.
Remember, the front toe is set according to the rear toe, so the rear must be adjusted first. How far out is the rear toe?
picture is kind of busy, but the bolt lives in the subframe at the front of the control arm. subframe needs to be loosened and lowered down an inch or two to get it out.
if you need it the bolt is FB01-28-470A and the nut is B037-28-091
Did you eliminate the dtss rear steer? Your wandering rear end could be a combination of bad dtss bushings, other worn bushings and a bad alignment.
Thats interesting. Never knew about that. I could definitely see it being that. In terms of bad alignment, the car used to do it once in a great while before new tires/alignment. After the new tires/alignment, it does it really bad. Its been so many years but I think it did this the last time I changed tires too, and slowly went away, not sure. I would like to do the dtss delete anyway.
