Tired of searching...screeching belts!!!
I searched and can't find a solution. What has everybody else been doing about screeching belts..it's drowning out the awesome exhaust tone. I have removed the air pump and installed a dual alt. pulley, and still makes noise. any help out there?.

you need to tighten them down ALOT!!! wedge a bar underneath the alternator and have someone lift while you tighten the belts. If that doesnt work, get new belts and try again. Belt dressing works for like 10 minutes

I had a belt that would scream when I was pulling away from a stop. Or rev from idle. It was much more apt to do it when it was damp and kind of cold.
I looked when the car was idling and noticed that the alternator belt was kind of wobbly; too much slack, so I just moved it on the bracket for some more tension and voila! Problem solved.
Are your belts old? Maybe take 'em off, clean everything, re-install new belts, get all the deflection right. Just start from scratch. It shouldn't be that stubborn to solve.

If you tighten the belt to much you will put unwanted stress on the acc. You can wear out an alternator in a very short time with an overtightened belt. Check your manual for proper belt tensions. You might just have worn out belts.

Belts should be adjusted to the proper deflection.
For example the alt belt should be tightend to .55 inch to .67 inches of deflection (thumb pressure - about 22 lbs).(14-17mm)
The air condition belt should be to .24 inch to .32 inches of deflection. (6-8mm)
and the power steering belt should be .43 to .51 inches of deflection. (11-13mm)

If you have the money and want something that works perfectly and looks even better check out Atkins Rotary's Rib Belt Pulley Kit.
http://www.atkinsrotary.com/newengpr.htm (scroll down near the bottom of the page)
I put that kit on the race car a LONG time before it was just a race car.
The only reason the next race car will not have one of these sets is because they are not legal in ITS class.
But if you have the dual pulley on the alternator and still have squeeky belts then one or both of your belts are bad. Get new ones.
