i used to work at a tire kingdom so i think i can help, it all depends on one thing, there is a number on all tires called a treadwear, look for that number it is by the traction and temperature letters, that is really what you want to look at the higher the better, as for the amount of tread new tires have anywhere from 10/32 to 13/32 depending on brand, if the used ones have at least 6/32 on them you will not have to buy any more for awhile.

hope it helped

higher treadwear numbers usually imply less sticky tires too eh?

yes that sometimes is true, but if you get a good speed rated tire then the tread patern will give you the traction you need
