What is the biggest rear tire that can be put on a T2, biggest I mean widest. The more traction the better.

 

I've seen 265/40R17 on 9" wide wheels on the rear. This was without having to modify the fenders. As far as the offset goes, I don't know. Keep in mind that there isn't too much room left for too much movement back there with tires this wide so upgrade your suspension too.
