tips on wheel hub/halfshaft removal?
Okay... I got the brake disc + wheel hub assembly loose, but the halfaxle won't let loose. I'm scared to just yank on the CV joint on the wheel hub end because i dont' wanna break something (i've never had to take a non-broken one out before and i don't know how). First obvious solution is to pull the halfaxle out too. This doesn't work because I have the same problem with a CV joint. Right on the other side of the CV joint on the differential end is where it connects to the piece that goes into the diff with 4 bolts and the bolt holes are too big to go through.
I've used a spare nut that holds the stub axle in to give a bigger target to hit with a hammer. Thread the nut on backwards till its almost flush with the end of the stub axle(nut sticking out a little) and hit it. This way you have less a chance of boogering up the stub axle threads. Its better to have a big hammer a hit it lightly at first than swinging wildly with a small hammer. Good luck, a little PB Blaster will help your cause too.
turns out.. if you have a person to help you.. you don't even have to get the CV off.. you can just twist it right and it comes out. Halfshaft and all.
Procedure for removal of wheel hub = remove the brake caliper, remove the nuts that hold the brake disc on - at this point the wheel hub is loose, then just unbolt the nuts that hold the differential end of the halfshaft to the piece that plugs into the differential (4 bolts, one every 90 degrees), and when the piece with the four holes for bolts gets to the hole for the halfshaft and wheel hub, just twist it right and it comes right out!
