Tips for my first thermostat replacement! (87 TII)
Hey guys, I'm just a little nervous. Do I need to drain the coolant? Or should I just undo the top of the upper radiator hose and use some paper towels to clean it up? Also, should I not touch the thermostat (is it oil sensetive?) while installing it? Plus any other tips that people have found from replacing thermostats would be great!!! (And yes, it's OEM Mazda...w00t!) Thanks ahead!

If you havn't changed you coolant in a year, now is a good time.
Check the bypass port in the pump housing, just below the stat for erosion.
The spring loaded disc under the stat must cover the hole.
Oh - the little air bleed hole goes toward the top.

No need to drain it, although most would recommend that the coolant be changed once a year. the last thing you want is it to OVERHEAT. But if it's just the stat that you're changing then you'll be ok.
