Those don't sound like factory speakers.

I think you are talking about the tweeters, part of a component system, definately not factory. It needs to be wired to the crossover. It has a + and - input and then a two sets of + and - outputs, a set going to both the woofer and tweeter. Hope this helps.

Those are NOT standard items... dude.... My suggestion is to take one off, see if its a good speaker, and if not, replace them with a new set of component speakers (because otherwise you will have holes showing in the doors) OR you can get a passive crossover unit and buy raw 6" mid/bass drivers (no tweets in them) and put them in the holes in the bottom of the doors and then hook up your tweets through the x-over way.....

I have seperates, but I, like a good little monkey, mounted the tweets on the plastic triangle thing in the corner of the window, that way, i could just replacee that thing instead of having holes in my upholstery!!!!!!!

There are speaker openings on the upper center section of the door frames, both on the 86-88 and 89-91 cars. Up to a 5 1/4 could fit but maximum depth for the speaker must not exceed about 2 1/4 inches (a little less than that), otherwise it'll contact the window glass.

You may have to make brackets to fit new aftermarket speakers (if they aren't already made by Mazda).

4" should fit, but once again keep the depth of the driver in mind.

I've prewired my doors with installing speakers in mind (components, with tweeters in the mirror triangle covers, and the drivers in the center area).
