timing at idle

hey all,

when a guy times his car,any car, including the rx-7, isnt its supposed to be at idle?
If I cant get my idle down below 1000 on one of rx'es
wouldnt the spark advance automatically forward my timing, and give an inaccurate reading? 88 turbo 2.

any input is appreciated,thanks,
mack

Yes.
At 1,000RPM, it's approximately 5degrees more advanced.
The spec calls for idle speed 750RPM + or - 50RPM, so 5ATDC is the spec for that particular RPM speed.
