TX Timing Advice for Carbed Fc

Hello!
I bought an 1987 fc that had all the stock intake and emissions equipment chopped and hacked up by the previous owner.
I mean it was bad, he just put jb weld over everything he had removed from the throttle body, cut all the emission wiring, and nothing worked.
So after rebuilding and street porting it, I slapped a RB Holley Carb on it and it runs!
It is obviously running really rich and needs to be timed, I have never timed a rotary before, let alone one that has been carbed. So I am here for advice/moral support before I take the dive this weekend. What advice would you all give, should i time it first, and then adjust idle mixture and speed screw? or vice versa? Any advice is appreciated!
I will of course look at factory instructions, but since this is kind of an odd situation I just wanted to check in for advice first.

For more background it is a 1987 N/a base model, street ported, RB tuned Holley 600 CFM, no OMP (running premix)

I would ask the 1st generation section as the amount of carb experience here is basically 0

what are you running for ignition?

for the idle mixture and speed, you can actually follow the procedure in the FSM, its pretty much the same.
idle mixture, initially, should be set so it idles the best. then you adjust the idle speed, and then mixture again, etc. the final adjustment should be a tad leaner than where it idles the best (1/8 to 1/4 turned in). you should be able to get it to idle at 750 like stock.

start with the stock timing marks. once the carb is dialed in, you could try a little advance and see what it likes

Are you using the stock ECU?

Regardless I agree with j9fd3s. I actually just started up my FC with a Weber and stock coils for the first time a few days ago. We set the idle screws first and then messed with the timing. It was happy to idle even with the timing way (wayyy) off, but pretty unhappy with the mixture screws turned too far one way or the other. Also, make sure it's fully warmed up before trying to tune any of the settings.

Keep us updated on how it runs!
