Timing Adjustment

Has anyone tried to mess with their timing? If so...how much can I adjust it safely to increase more horsepower?

Do you have a Turbo? If so changing your timing could be dangerous to your engine. The stock ignition retards it for a reason. If you dont have a turbo, im not sure, but I think I read on a N/A adjusting the timing made no significant gain. Maybe someone else can back me up here.
