I can hear detonation coming from under my hood when my car is under load. How do i check/change the timing to fix this?

Go to the FAQ and you will find links to the factory service manuals. Section F (non-turbo) and Section G (turbo) describe in detail how to set the timing.

Do you have a timing light? Then follow the manual.

Take care of the detonation/pinging issue as soon as possible....not good for piston banger engines and very bad for rotaries.
