They both do the same thing, but the A'PEXi S-AFC has a lot more features - i.e. bells & whistles.

The A'PEXi S-AFC has some really nice features like sensor monitor and reprogrammable RPM points (I don't think the HKS unit can change RPM points?) which some owners might find advantageous.

I believe the S-AFC2 is the newest version of the line.
I don't think there are any new S-AFC (1)'s still for sale?

the safr has more adjustable points than the safc2.
the apexi unit has them and you can change them +/- 200rpm and has 12 points
the hks unit does the same thing except at +/- 50rpm but only 11 points
