Lightbulb Time for a rebuild- the parts list?

I am going to be ordering the parts for my rebuild and have a few questions. 88Integral is nice enought to be giving me a hand- but I think ive asked him enough questions .

I have 72k on the engine so I am hoping this is all I need.
Apex Seals/ Springs
Side seal springs
Corner seal plugs
93+ cornerseal springs
Engine Oring Kit (from RA)
Thermo Pelet bypass.

What else?

I am trying my best to just order 2mm seals and springs I need from ATKINS, but their website is driving me insane. I dont need a full gasket set seeing as I just replaced everything except the internal gaskets. I was going to just buy RA seals/springs and their oring kit- but they are experiancing shipping delays according to their website.

For assembly, RTV, petrolium jelly (is there a better lube?), and anything else?

Now cleaning the engine. Its been suggested that I run a can of Carb cleaner through a vacume hose while the engine is running to do so pre carbon cleaning. Well... I dint like that idea so I ran 2 gallons of water through it while running. Anything else I can do? Once I have it disassembled I have heard anything from Mineral spirits to simple green for soaking the rotors. I also want to media blast the housings and front cover, thats ok right? If I want to paint them, any special paint I should use or what?

Thanks for all the help .

I would open it up and see what you need first unless you have some money lying around. Some of the parts don't really need replaced.

I believe you also need Hylomar. I also hear superglue is good to use on keeping some pieces in during assembly.

As for the painting, it is safe to sandblast as far as I understand it (dunno what media blasting is) the housings just make sure you cover up everything you don't want damaged. (Cover basically everything but the outside).

Hey, PM me if you have questions and I'll help with what I can... did my first pull and I'm finishing up the rebuild now... finished cleaning the rotors, working on the housings... already have all the parts I need.

And you'll need the full gasket kit because the intake manifold and exhaust manifold gaskets will be destroyed when you pull the engine... I didn't think I'd need the full kit either but I know I will now.

Don't forget to replace the main and rear seals... they're about 10$ each.

Ah thanks man! Im planning on those seals.

I have a brand new exhaust manifold gasket when I replaced the turbo 2 weeks ago, and I have a spare UIM/LIM gasket and water control rings sitting here waiting .

Here's my list of what I did for the rebuild.

Following from atkins:
86-88 N/A Aftermarket Gasket Kit #16259
2mm Corner Seal Plug Set #16193
93-95 Corner Seal Spring Set #16714
13B 2mm Side Seal Spring Set #16187
Atkins' Rotary Viton Oil Ring Inserts #16578
Front Main Seal #16622
Rear Main Seal #16623
Atkins' Thermal Pellet #16401
Hylomar Sealant

Then from RA I got the apex seals/springs.

I used petroleum jelly for lube, it worked fine, but you can also use engine assembly lube. Also the hylomar sealant is available at autoparts stores instead of from atkins, too, but I just got it from them when I went in to pick everything up at their shop.

JudgeITO extreme streetport templates!!

That's what I'd do if I had a TII, and if I could go back in time I would've ported more as well. I thought I'd leave the secondaries more mild for better driveability and idle, but it turns ou my idle is still great and the driveability (even with an aluminum flywheel) is great. We'll see, I might crack it back open in a year or so and go crazy with the portin

I didn't buy atkins seals and springs so I can't help you there, I bought RA seals and springs.

Are you sure those are them? I see on the side note is says may have to be machined to fit 3mm apex seals??

Read the description more carefully, it says "Please check the Apex Seal area on the rotor to assure that the rotor is with in specifications. If it is not the rotor will either need to be replaced or milled to accept 3mm apex seals."

That's saying make sure it can fit 2mm seals, because if it can't then you'll have to get 3mm, which are not these.

Another way to make sure and make you feel better, in search type in "13B Apex Seal Set" exactly like that.

Very bottom is the matching part on that link, and it says:

13B Apex Seal Set

Six 13B 2mm Apex Seals

If you really wanna make sure you can call in and order too.
