TII Transmission Swap...True or False...
I drive an 88 GXL, I have a T2 that I bought to do THE swap. My goal was to make everything I take off the T2 as nice as I can get it, before putting it in the NA, but the clutch on the NA didnt want to wait for me to be ready to swap the whole drive train at once.
I have about three weeks before I have the drive train ready to go in. I still have work to do to the Diff and one half shaft.
Long story short, my T2 flywheel is ready, transmission has new front and rear seals, and the driveshaft has a new u-joint, the yoke was replaced and balanced.
Can I pop the companion flange off of the T2 diff and pop it into the NA diff...and life is good?

Yes and no... I have done that (used a non turbo rear end with a Turbo tranny/drive shaft, and Turbo diff flange), but in most cases you will need to reset the static pressure/height of the pinion.
The idea is to pull the flange without disturbing anything. If you tighten the new flange even a half turn too much you will need to reset the pinion height (the spacer washers crush indescribably easy).
So it can be done... just needs to be done carefully.
