TII Swap questions

So I have had my NA 86 not that long but I am planning to do a complete T11 swap soon. I think I am getting a good deal a local person is selling his setup for 1800. 18xxx miles one the engine and high mileage everything else also comes with full drivetrain and turbo hood and everything else on the car to do a swap.

I am going to have a shop do the swap. I have no time experience, tools, or room to do it myself. I was quoted about $1000. Now I'm niot sure if they ever did a TII swap but I know they have done a lot of SR-engine swaps with a lot of people recomending them. Would it be a good idea to have them do the swap if they haven't do any rx7 swaps or should I find someone who did at least one?

If I do go with them and this is there first rotary swap how do I make sure they can do it without sounding like a jerk to them? Can I print out the writeouts or tell them to read this site or what, I don't want to go in there sounding like a jerk but don't want to let them break my car either.

as far as the parts, its not a bad deal. motor and all accessories, tranny, driveshaft, rear end, cv shafts, hubs, ecu, etc isall included?? and all working??

as far as the work, well i guess compared to other shops that may be a fair deal, but i dont think that the work is worth that much considering the will have access to lifts and al the right tools. this could be a skewed view since the only thing i take my carto ashop for is state inspection and tire mounting.

theres no reason why they *shouldnt* be able to perform the swap. its not hard. at the same time, there are some unique issues only ppl who have done it before would know about. so i would have to say that i wouldnt let them (no to say thy couldnt, i would just feel more comfortable having a rotorhead do it)

They should be able to take care of it no problem. If there are any difficulties, print this out and show them: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/s4-na-turbo-swap-details-813825/

You beat me to it! I was going to post that link for the hundredth time.

To the OP: Outline, in detail, exactly what will be changed, and what will stay. Print out things like the ECU pin locations from the fuel & emissions section of the FSM, and and figure out what impedance your new TII injectors are beforehand. '87-'87.5 = low imp. & '87.5 - '88 = high imp. You car will have a low impedance setup since it's an '86, so it's very important that you know ahead of time. More info is in the thread needRX7 linked to. In my experience, even quality shops will give up and guess on wiring, which is not cool. Transmission switch wiring comes to mind, as well.

Ok thanks guys. I actually found out the shop does do rx7 work, and actually come pretty highly recommended for rx7 work. I will review everything needed and that link is very good thank you. I think I will probably have a chat with the shop soon as well to make sure I know everything they need me to do and get.

So even though I found one shop that is said to be good with rotaries I was shopping around for another one that does work on them, just to keep my options open. I called them and asked do you engine swaps they said yes, I asked can you do a TII swap into a NA rx7? They were silent and then you said you mean its an engine from an s4 and I was like yes it is. He says yes but he was like why would you want to, and like they nevr did it before. He said he guess he can do it but I have to bring in pictures of the engine I'm buying to make sure he can do it.

What's you guys thoughts on this?

this is exactly what im talking about. any capable mechanic should be able to complete this swap, its really not hard. but if you have someone who is not familiar with fcs doing it, they are gonna get tripped up on some of the little stuff, and possibly over estimate your price. plus, lots of ppl are already intimidated by rotaries, even if they are not rebuilding the motor. they may look at the instructions and think its a $2000 job, when its definately not. are you friends with any rotor heads in your area? maybe a member of the local mazda club?? doesnt ted (REted) live there too? maybe you could find one with a garage and a couple of you guys work on it together. this is how my cousin and i met alot of the supra friends we know, he was doing a top end (head gaket job/vavle work) rebuild and turbo upgrade on his supra and he got a local guy that was in his forum to let him house the car in his garage and help work on it. other local toyota club guys started coming over too. had PLENTY of expertise, tools, and hands. just a thought, either way, like i said, if you really wanna take it to a shop, it shouldnt be a problem, personally tho, i would just rather have an rx7 guy do it, hes already familiar with it, knows what needs to be done, knows how long, how easy it is, everything. my .02

Yea I asked on thr local forums and everybody is saying not to do it? They said to many things are going to go wrong and just buy a TII. Its hard though there's only so many people here and out of those there is less that own an rx7 and less that are selling TIIs. So I have an NA with a good body, so I found some one locally selling a TII donor and just want to do it. No one seems to know how and everyone that does doesn't have the equipment. So the only option so far is to have a shop do it.

I don't think that the people on the localboard realize that you have a donor car. Just strip all the TII swap parts off of the donor car including the suspension. Munkey Wurks can for sure do the swap for you.
