Unhappy TII running like crap

so i just rebuilt my motor about a month ago an ive been having the hardest time to keep it running. I have only about 23 miles on it cause of this. I got it running the past few days an i just drove it some more, an it ran like ****. i would let the clutch out an it would try to bog so i would have to slip it as i gave it more gas. i got going an it just felt really sluggish an it sounded like its running off like 5 of the 6 faces but i pull my plugs out an i hear six pops. 3 on each housing. so im thinking its not blown. but a dude i was talking to said that even if i broke a apex seal it would give compresson an run like crap till i got to like 3500 4000rpm is that true.

but i was driving it at about 15miles an it was good an all of a sudden outa no wear it started to happen. insted of a nice baaaaa its like braa braa braa braa an it just felt really slow an running like crap. i changed the plugs an still had the same problem. i put a new fuel filter in my pump is still good an a new selonoid resistor. but i noticed today driving it i got it to run an i drove it an all of a sudden when i pulled in my driveway had my foot on the gas an i heard a loud exhaust leak i looked under an it looked like it was coming ffrom my resinator. i have 3" one cat an behind the cat about a foot or so resinator. could that have got clogged an blew the gasket out? please someone help me with this i havnt had much luck on here cause i never used any commas periods an stuff like that.

Check timing, check for vacuum leaks, make sure you have oil pressure and enough fluids. I don't think an exhaust leak would cause you this much trouble either. You haven't tried boosting it, have you? You need to put at a BARE MINIMUM 1000 miles on it before boosting at all, and it would be recommended to put 2000 on it before boosting. Now, I didn't follow that exactly for my build, but I used a lot of new and very nice used parts in the build so it broke in faster, and I'm an impaciente.

well i resued my housings an everything just put new rotor kit in. boosting not really just the normal shifting at 4000 u can hear the bov but thats normal. im not pushing it to try to boost wither just driving at about 30 to 50% throttle an shifting at 4000 i took it to 4500 once but that was a total accident on my part. ill check my enigne for leaks. oil is good reading my pressure antifreeze good an all that run stuff.

Did you replace your coolant seals when you rebuilt it? From what I've read; after the motor's been wet, opened, then the coolant seals reused; the coolant seals tend to fail quickly if not immediately. Whenever you open a motor you have to replace the coolant seals.

yea i bought a new internal gasket set when i rebuilt it. with new dowel o rings an oild rings an all that fun crap lol. everything was new gasket wise intake exhaust an all that.i have a video of both rotors with for compression ill post the link they all sound equal. im still pretty low on compression sence i reused everything hounsing wise. im at about 65 70psi both rotors.i was told that was normal so ehhh.

Yeah it'll probably be a few hundred miles before you're making ok compression. Have you set the idle to 1000-1250? That might help some, you might just be battling the real low compression at the low RPM range.

I had forgotten to answer that. Blown motors typically run really poorly and I suspect each blown motor will act a little different from the others as well, however I doubt it would run well at any RPM, it just might seem to run smoother at mid to high RPM. I also don't have personal experience driving a blown motor, but I've read several accounts of it.

yea like it runs bad at low rps but as soon as i get to like 3500 an up it seems to smooth out but then i shift. but other than that i dont know what it could be im so confused with it

Have you checked your timing? Does your turbo glow after you've been running at least a little while? How's your coolant temp?

timing is good my turbo stays gray an coolant temp is pretty good cant tell numbers cause the mazda gauge. but i did a mazda compression test today an my rear rotor is really weak so im goin to tear it apart an see whats up....

In the videos you posted sounds like teh rear rotor has problems to me. You can distinctly hear the pulses in the front rotor and only one in the rear. Maybe it's just the way the camera picked it up but thats what it sounds like to me. Loss of compression on two side of the rear rotor equals one bad apex seal.

well on the rear theres 3 pops but 2 are weak an on is stronger i checked today with a mazda compression tester an my front was beautiful close numbers low but still on break in with old housings. my rear was ehh every were it was like 2.2 1.7 1.5 but i pulled the motor today an ill have it open tomorrow so ill keep u posted if i find anything really bad. i felt today an the apex seals are all there on both rotors so ill see tomorrow.

i have the same exact problem. But everyone tells me that its just a break in procedure... Im scared to drive it on the busy street, ppl will honk at me lol. ive gone through about over a full tank of gas, its getting abit easier to start, but sometimes it floods right away due to low compression.. I have to pull the plugs and deflood it.. Its annoying and it smokes alot[from the assembly lube] well ill just keep breaking in and see...

Mine ran like *** for at least 1000 miles. Man, it was a bitch driving it the 100+ miles back from Portland. Never flooded once, though everything in the engine is new. Around 1200 miles it started getting better...so I would assume everything is okay, but who knows? Hopefully for you it is.

yeah i think when i posted this it was the first time i blew it on the rebuild... but now it running good kinda sucks cause its getting cold out an i have no emission on it so i dont idle very well. But other than that its just like every rx7 leaks oil lol... But right now im trying to get it all back to no leaking an stuff like that lol...
