TII ppl: Rear section of exhaust system?

I'm having trouble deciding... how to set-up the rear section of my exhaust.

I sold my N1 dual's a while ago because I didn't like the piping size. Now, this next system... I will be going with round Magnaflow mufflers.

Here are my choices:
1) Single - 3inch all the way passenger-side exit

2) Dual - 3inch dp/mp splitting to (2) 3inch pipes going to 3inch magnaflows

3) Dual - 3inch dp/mp splitting to (2) 2.5inch pipes going to 2.5inch Magnaflows

I know choice #1 is tried and works great, so no questions regarding that...

Now with sound/loudness... How would #2 compare to #3? Would there even be a difference in loudness? I'll be running straight-through all the way to the mufflers...

Flow... I get the idea that the piping size would be too big on #2. Would #3 flow any better? Or would they not make much of a difference if at all?

Looks.. Although all subjective, I loved having that "balanced" look with the dual's. Anyone else think it more proper this way? With the dual's I plan to spray the mufflers and piping in high temp flat black paint. I hope for it to look as close to stock as possible.

Any other ideas for keeping the exhaust quiet without resorting to using a cat or presilencer? I would like to keep the only restriction to being the mufflers...

Generally, the bigger the pipes, the louder it will be. I would seriously consider a presilencer too. They cause very little resistance but really help kill droning.

Behind a turbo the less restriction the better, and dual 3" will definitely outflow dual 2.5". Note that the dual 2.5" will flow as well as a single 3", and the dual 3" will leave it for dead.

Absolutely, I wouldn't have it any other way.
With the dual's I plan to spray the mufflers and piping in high temp flat black paint.
This is what I'm going to do soon too. My mufflers are starting to look a little old, so a tart-up is required. I much prefer flat black mufflers to bright shiny ones. Don't want too much attention...

Hmm, droning I don't mind much. I'd just like to be able to idle slightly quieter.

I'm considering getting a universal 3inch cat converter right before the split. Would this quiet it down at idle more so than a presilencer? I'd like to find the best compromise between flow and noise off the throttle.

As for the rear section, so far, I'm convinced to go choice #2... Scott 89t2, do you have a particular reason for picking choice #3?

Thanks for helping!

Oh yea, and should I get the 14" long mufflers or the 18" long ones?
