TII Owners: Need your advice RE: Turbo Cool Down times!

Heh guys, I just wanted some input on HOW LONG TO RUN THE CAR on the Turbo Timer. Like HOW LONG for these examples:

(1) Driving normally to get some groceries or whatever...10 mins drive.
(2) Driving for an hour on the highway, booting it a lot in between
(3) Going to the STREET RACES, and starting it up after it sitting for a while...letting it run for few minutes and giving it all you got, as you smoke some 'stang! How long to let it cool down there after the run?

Please let me know, cause I don't wanna OVER IDLE the car and don't wanna UNDER IDLE it either. Some guidlines would help. Thanks.

Accually the only time I use mine is when Im really out beating the **** out of my car. I have mine set for 2.5 mins for cool down. I may be doing it wrong but thats what I do.

if you're not boosting, just on a normal drive you don't really need to, I leave mine for like 30 secs then just push the off button. (to lazy to change the time) if you're boosting on the highway, you're best to just take it easy the last few mins before you reach your stop, then once again just leave for 30 secs or so. at the race you should porbably leave it for 2-3 mins. but once again you would be much better off to just drive around slowly for a few mins instead.

I use my timmer more for keeping the car running then to let it shut off. my 2nd time is set for 9:59, so when I run into the bank, or other quick chores, I just lock the door and leave it running. also handy when you need to look/unlock your house and need your keys but don't want to shut the car off.

I don't think the turbo timers are needed, sure if you foget to take care of your car after getting on it alot. But like has been said, I just drive mellow for the last 2-3 min. before I get somewhere...Also remember to let it warm up to operating temps before getting on it!
have fun!

Yeah, why is that so important...to let it warm up before you beat on it? Can someone explain the reason...thanks!

i don't know the answer to ur question...but just by common sense...
it's just better to warm up ur car b4 beating on it..

just like a professional sport player..
they gotta warm up and run around b4 they actually give their best in the game...
or like racers..they gotta warm up their tires b4 they run..

things are designed to have some kind of operating temperature for max performance..

and i hope that make some sense to you =)

Correct, don't rag on your ride, until its fully warmed up to operating temps...Both the engine & turbo will last longer by taking care of it.

i am not 100% o n this but, i heard that when the car is cold that if you take it above 3k rpms then it could have the same effect as overheating it, but not to such that bad of a degree. i heard that everything on the inside of the motor is made up of different types of metals. if that is true then whenever it is to cold or to hot then the rotors eat grooves into the housing. but i have no idea if that is true or not just what i heard. what i do know is that when i first got my car i took it to redline in first and then second when it was still cold one day, yea the car wasnt nearly as fast and put off some sort of funny smell. so i just wait till a little after the temp needle stops moving to the center and then i rag on it. also it is better to drive it and keep it under 3k rpms to warm it up then it is to let it idle. has something to do with carbon build up. i thi nk that is more than $.02 but o well

This is what I do;

Easy driving, sitting a minute b4 turning car off = 30sec
Highway+ slow drive after = 1:30
Hard driving.. usually has a slower ride before shutting off = 3 mins
Running to bank or house = 10 mins

while we are on this topic...something has been bugging me for the last few days (besides the fact that someone smashed my window and tried to steal my stereo...all they got were my cds) but when i start the car after its cold it seems like it does not even want to warm up. it idles just fine but if i pin it it will rev up really slowly. and if i hold it it sounds likes its pinging i am not sure its little pop noises. but after it warms up rides well and pulls hard. I am afraid its low compression...I am planning on doing the ATF trick this week since I am off from college. any ideas guys?
