TII no exhaust advice

I currently don't have the spare change laying around for an exhaust system for my conversion. I have some of the parts mostly the motor tranny and Tii->NA diff drive shaft. I still need some sensors and an US TII ecu. Anyway for testing purposes to make sure everything works together correctly can I get everything in the car and start her up with an exhaust system? I don't want to 'splode anything. THe engine is practically new at 44k miles.

Advice? I don't want the car sitting in the garage when I could have the new engine in it waiting for an exhaust. The NA motor runs but the tranny has issues (and the engine crate is blocking the car into the garage 1 car garage limited space.

PS. NOT a daily, this car literally sits in the garage waiting for parts so I can race her. Well and a new paint job, figure while the old engine is out I'll scrub out the bay and give it a paint job.

Edit: Forgot to mention we also don't have a TII hood for it as I was waiting for one to become available locally because it's cheaper to drive and get it than to ship one. So car would be running in garage not on the street.

S4 or S5?

If the turbo is bolted up, in theory, it should be alright. I suggest ear protection though, and advise not to drive it around in this condition. Keep the testing short, so as not to irritate the neighbors.

Starting the car with no exhaust system? This will be so loud you will think you are going to die. Keep it short and stay off the street unless you want the drama that may come with that test run.

If you're still waiting on an ECU, it will be kinda hard to start. If you have everything in place to start it, then you're pretty much already done. Just add a little oil through the spark plug holes and rotate it weekly until it's ready to run.

Ah that isn't a bad idea. That should get us through until we can pick up an exhaust.

Any recommendations on a system that isn't too expensive? The Racing Beat (what we were looking at) is about 1100$ plus shipping. And I think either way unless I find a stock system in town that I'll be porting the waste gate, I saw Aaron Cakes tutorial on that.

Definitely port the wastegate, especially since it's already easily accessible. Once you remove the restriction of the cats, you'll want to do it anyway. I straight up do not like loud exhausts, so my preference is racing beat or oem turbo catback. Kinda the two extremes of the price range. Corksport also offers a reasonably priced exhaust.

Do you know if corksports solution is any good? I don't like loud exhausts either, I like a good tone, it's not about decibel levels Someone should tell the fart can ricers that.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the TII exhaust just a complete NA one.

I prefer quieter exhaust than most as well. I built a custom system using a 3" CS downpipe to a 3" magnaflow cat, then split to 2 2.5" pipes with a resonator and magnaflow stainless glass pack on each. Sounds very refined, with a little growl when I get on it.

Its not that bad with a turbo, NA is unbearable. I drove with out a downpipe for a week and I liked it lol. It was nice hearing the turbo spool. Then I picked up a downpipe and drove like that for two months with no exhaust. No issues if you like the noise. Just my two cents.

^^ Its not as much as if YOU like it compared to how much your peers will like it... If you go home from a late night of fun and wake everyone up getting home, then you should not be driving it.

Go for the Rotary Performance "RP 50mm cat-back". $395 bran new. www.rx7.com

On the cheaper side but Rotary Performance sells all quality stuff and it will be on the quiet side for sure.

Yeah, port your wastegate LARGE, wear ear protection, and manage fuel cut somehow.

If you're just looking to start it up to see if it runs, then that would be fine. But driving with a mix of NA and TII sensors/ECU and no downpipe would be asking for trouble. Zero exhaust restriction will mean sweet mid-range boost spikes. Especially with an unported wastegate.

I don't even plan on running it until we get all the sensors and complete the swap. It's just the exhaust is the most expensive part lol. Sensors we can do! And trust me I'll be porting the waste gate.

Thanks for the advice!
