Are TII/NA diff housing/gearing interchangable?

Anyone know? I may need to rebuild my TII S4 diff since there is slight play in the driveshaft spline b4 it engages the output shafts , so i may inspect everything and was thinking to throw it into this NA housing i have that is great and i dont mind the NA gear ratio.

No, n/a's are 7" diff's. While TII's are 8".

The play is between the pinion and ring gear. N/A diffs use a 7" ring gear where as a TII diff uses a 8" so the obvious answer is no.

i suppose its backlash? i get a clunk if i drop the clutch, so i have to ease it. I got the car up in the air and confirmed that i can rotate the driveshaft by hand just a tid bit b4 it engages the wheels. I threw this diff in about a month or so ago and it was like that. Figured it was good, threw in fresh fluids. Guess Id jus have to rip it apart and try adjusting backlash? Ill have to go pick up proper tools to do it.

how much play are we talking in the pinon before the axles turn? Check front diff mount also.

Sounds like the diff mount, especially since the car was abused before you bought it.

actually diff mount is fine i have a good one on there, and i put a bump stop "pinion snubber as some call it."

As far as rotational play, well enough that when i rotate it hard by hand, it will make a clank sound. Id say about half an inch of play if you rotate by hand.
