TII or NA????????
TII or NA????????
Ok, I have wanted a 7 for a while. I sorta ventured off after I payed off my credit card because a friend fucked me over (left the state and stuck me with the missing money). So since I have that payed off now finally, I was getting into bikes, but still have a love for the 7 because my friends have some. Anyhow, my question is, what would be better in your opinions. To go with a TII or NA? I live in Arizona, so the turbo will get some nice dry AZ hot air, which will make me lower the boost to save it. NA is another option, because I don't have to worry about a turbo. I know with a TII you can make more hp with less money, correct? NA will take a little money, unless porting it and taking some of the engine life away (granted modding in general will do so). If I go the way of NA, I will more than likely spray too. Its a tough decision right now, because my thoughts are completely split and go either way. Thats why I come here to get some advice and opinions on this matter. As for cost, I don't wish to spend that much on the car to start out with, granted everyone wishes that though. I don't have that much, only about $1k right now, since the credit card killed me, and set me back. Also, which would help on insurance? Or would it not really matter that much? Thanks for listening, and for giving opinions.
You really need to question why you want an RX-7. They aren't really meant to be drag cars, so getting an N/A and using nitrous kinda defeats the purpose.
I've got a TII so obviously I'm a little biased. If you want more power, get a TII. If you want dependability and a responsive engine, get an N/A.

I don't think it really matters much. =/ Insurance on my T2 is $805 a half with liability and fire/theft.
TURBO!
they may be alittle more complicated, but man its a TURBO.....you cant beat it with a stick......and with you being in AZ there has to be some LONG...STRAIGHT...roads there....perfect for maxing out 4th.....
if you get an N/A...most likely you'll just end up wanting more....
but personally i wish i had an N/A backup, so when my TII goes down i have another one to have fun with....
if i had to pick just one though.......TII!!

if you only have 1k... you pretty much will have to go with a n/a, and good luck finding one for 1k or less that is in good running condition... my n/a was 850 and needed at least 1100 in repairs (and it still isn't running) granted, mine did have 206k miles when i got it...
With turbo the car actually feels like its power backs up its good handling, the feeling increases as you modify engine and suspension. N/a is just too limited in my opinion. N/a for the daily grind, turbo for fun!

Take it from someone who's had both. I've had an '88 NA but now own an '87 Turbo II.
For pure driving experience (through the turns), responsiveness (both throttle and steering), and less headaches, you should get an NA. The handling is more predictable too compared to a TII when you're boost kicks in during a turn. The NA engines do last longer than TII's too.
But if you want a lot more power, the TII will take you there much more quicker and cheaper. Only at the expense of being slightly less responsive. Remember, TII's weigh more than NA's and have some turbo lag. The maintenance is higher and a higher possibility of something going wrong. I'm in the process of trying to get my TII to handle better with aftermarket suspension upgrades.
But anyways, if you care about straightline speed and willing to put up with the higher maintenance, the TII is for you. NA's are great for everything else other than straightline speed. If I could, I would own both.

People have this odd bias against NAs. Don't know why.
Lots of sites out there....Mazdatrix.com, racingbeat.com, RX-7.com, RX7store.net (.com?), this forum, etc.

HAHA, I am sensing some hostility over here a bit. What are some good sites to check out for aftermarket mods? I used to have a few, but my computer had to get formatted, so I lost quite a few, so if you would be able to list some, that would be great. Thanks.

To the original poster, since my previous post was too vauge for the *edited for content flaming* on this forum ill have to be specific.N/A is not what you want if you want to go fast, but they are cheaper. Most people who get an N/A wish they would have gotten a turbo. Aaron Cake himself is one of these people (it seems, unless he just likes spending money on custom building a turbo kit for his car). He obviously wasnt satisfied with the N/A power just like you probably will be if you get one.
