TII Motor swaping into Sport Edition Rx7?

Well i had an unfortunate accident in my turboII and was looking for a shell to swap everything into. I found a guy that has a clean rx7 at his house with a blown motor and is willing to part with it for 400 bucks. i asked what model it is and she says it's the "Sport" model. wasn't too familiar but i talk to someone else about it and they said it was the rare model of rx7.

I want to put my 13bt in this car and i notice that it already has the 5 lug wheels and just wondering what other similarities it may have with the TurboII or what problems I would run into when doing the swap.

The Sport wasn't necessarily a "rare" model, but it's ideal for a TII swap... It has the TII 4-piston brakes and heavy duty suspension already, but has manual windows and no rear wiper... It's lighter than a TII but better equipped than a Base... The BEST platform for a TII swap in my opinion...

Also it's the same as swapping a TII engine into any other S4 N/A, so that should be easy enough... Go to www.rotaryresurrection.com and look in the "tech" section for more info on the swap... Oh and good luck!

So how is the rear end on that car? Do I need to drop it and keep the turboII LSD rear end?

i'm pretty much trying to make it as much like my turboII as possible.. althought it sucks becuase it doesn't have a sunroof.. damn.

i have someone that knows rx7s pretty well and he is willing to help me finish it. So i believe everything is going. even the drivetrain. just trying to make it easy on myself by figuring out what is the same so i don't have to swap it with turboII equipment.

going to be hard to part with the old rx7. lot of good times...

the sport is the lightest and sportiest n/a model

the turbo is basically the weighty GXL with a turbo to make up for the extra weight

most powerful engine + lightest body = speed

Sport package WITHOUT the sunroof is the lightest 2nd gen they made and rare. And a perfect base for E Production race car. Hang on to that one. The only negatives ,no lsd & the two i own did not come with aluminum hoods, but some probably did in 86. Options where sunroof, manual rack.

My old '87 Sport had an aluminum hood... And actually the S4 Base was lighter... The Sport was the lightest 5-lug model though...

Althought i got a new clutch installed and was still getting the hang of it and i think when i down shifted when entering the corner i think i might have accidently gear locked it and lost traction. that was a crappy day.

i was going to get my brother on the coast and when i wrecked it flooded so bad i couldn't get it started again (i didn' have tools to remove the plugs) so i got a ride back to my house. was so determinded to get my brother that i hoped in my protege and drove the same road passed my rx7 on the side of the road and got him. ofcourse i picked it up on the way back.

actually it is all bent to hell and i have a lot of exhuast leaks. it also rattles aganist something down there but i was hoping to fix all that when i put it on the other car.

you can see it's starting to melt the rear bumper. bummer my door doesn't shut correctly, the rear hatch is pushed up a little bit and the rear whiper doesn't work. didn't realize how helpful that thing is until i lost it

I call BS, how could a s4 base with iron front calipers be lighter than a s4 sport with aluminum front calipers? I guess you would have to way the difference between the sports wing and aero kit & the iron front calipers. Probably very close.

Call BS all you want... Get the weight figures for each car and then come back and call BS... Oh and btw the S5 GTUs wasn't the lightest model, and it wasn't even the lightest S5 model... The sunroofless GTU was the lightest S5 and the sunroofless Base was the lightest S4...

To clear things up, S4's are lighter than S5's.
