TII Hard to Start

My Turbo 2 is hard to get started. The whole car is still stock. I noticed that if i put some trans fluid down into the spark plugs holes, it helps to get it started. I had it running once for about 10 minutes, but then my friend stalled it out, and it wouldn't restart. Any Ideas? Thanks...

Do a compression test...
When it's running, does it idle badly?
You could have a really huge vacuum leak....
Check the timing (hard though when it's not running....)
You might have a completely clogged cat, but it would have to be REALLY clogged not to let the car start at all, try unbolting it and starting the car.

Has it been sitting for a long time or something?
It's probably flooding... make sure the plugs are dry, and maybe pull the EGI fuse and crank it over for a bit to dry out the inside....

Definately do a comp. test though, a car with no compression on one rotor will be really hard to start!

Yeah it has been sitting for about 5 months. I bought it off a guy who hasn't driven it for that long. I did notice though it did restart after sitting for about a hour or so,and I didn't add any trans fluid to it this time. Could my injectors be leaking and flooding my engine?

SOunds like it needs to run for a couple of hours. Could it be the gas has gone bad combined with it not running for five months and causing a sticking seal or two. Could be. I'd pump out the gas in there and put it in the snowplow/lawn mower and put new in with some fuel injector cleaner and make that puppy run for a full hour or more.

Your might look into making a fuel cut switch or find the fuel pump relay under and above the steering column and pull it instead. A temporary fuel cut sw might help until the problem resolves itself one way or the other.

Somebody told me that the fuel injectors on these cars start to leak down into the combustion chamber, therefore flooding the engine. I've heard that rc engineering does good jobs on injectors. The idle on the car is pretty constant and isn't rough. Do the injectors leak and flood it,even if the car is warm? Or doesn't temperature make a difference?

The warmer the engine the worse the leak after shut down. My car had the hot start prob after I got RC injs and everything so I just carbureted it with a rare setup and now my car is fine.

Do you think maybe new injectors would fix the problem?

Don't bet on it. I had a 'warm-start' problem, so I replaced the injectors with new ones... I still have the warm start problem. I don't know what the US Mazda dealers charge, but here in Canada, I spent CA$1400 for the 4 injectors. Unless you have money to burn, I would try other things first. Definately have them profesionally cleaned first (MUCH cheaper). There's a million other things that could be the problem though.
Ummm, not that I'm trying to discourage you or anything.

Well I've heard/read a lot about the injector problems these cars have. I did notice that if the car sits over night after it stalls out,it will start right up the next day but blows out some smoke when I first start it. I had it running today for about 15 minutes just idling and it stalled and it would not restart. I tried unflooding it but it didn't seem to help. Note though, the car has sat for about 6 months before I got it. Any input would be appreciated.

yeah, mine is hard to start after it's been running for a little bit. it doesn't want to start but if i wait 15 minutes or so, it'll start up. i can also get it to start up within 3 minutes if i keep going at it, my idle goes up to 3k and then down 1500 then eventually tries to stay at 1000 but goes down a few times and you can hear popping in the exhaust, kinda like a miss, but i can't tell....

Rig up a fuel cut switch to turn off the fuel pump, and use that to turn the car off, then flick it back up to start it up... if that solves ur problem you have leaky injector's...
